New Hygienic Design Cable Gland by WISKA

HatGLAND: Tight & Clean

17.11.2010, Kaltenkrichen - WISKA expanded its range of special cable glands by another innovation. HatGLAND was designed specifically for use in hygiene-relevant application areas like the food industry.

The new WISKA HatGLAND cable gland is resistant against contamination, robust and very tight against chemical and high-pressure cleaning – all of which are particularly important for sensitive industries such as food production, where machines and plants need to be designed according to high hygiene requirements. This applies to housings and cable glands just as well. The components are subject to extreme cleaning processes that they need to resist in any case.

Give Contamination No Chance

Grooves, pockets, recesses or protrusions where dirt particles can collect were consistently avoided when HatGLAND was developed. The new cable gland also has an over-proportionally slanted build with an inclination of 25 percent, ensuring quick runoff of liquids. The gap-free sealing concept of hygiene-compliant material and a seal equipped either with EPDM, silicon or FDA-approved elastomers give foreign materials no chance of entering the housing and impairing operation. Another effect is a reduction of the cleaning and maintenance effort.

Great Interest from Hygiene-Sensitive Industries

The high requirements to cleanliness and cleaning make the dirt-repellent, tight design of the Hat-GLAND ideal for use in the food industry, medical and clean-room technology, biotechnology and chemical industry. "We first presented the HatGLAND cable gland to a specialist audience on this year's architecture and technology exhibition Light+Building in Frankfurt am Main and on the world's largest industry trade fair in Hanover," says Ronald Hoppmann, General Manager of WISKA. "In particular the food and chemical industries showed an extraordinary interest." The stainless steel gland is installed easily from the inside with a locknut through oblong holes at nominal sizes of 12 to 63 mm. Housing wall thicknesses of up to 10 mm are possible. HatGLAND is also available as an EMC version.

New cable glands und classifications

07.10.2010, Kaltenkirchen - WISKA is going to present its comprehensive range of cable glands as well as its new highlights CLIXX and HatGLAND at the SPS/IPC/DRIVES show in Nuremberg, from 23 – 25 November.

HatGLAND is an in-house designed cable gland following the high demands of Hygienic Design in, for instance, the food and chemical industry as well as medical technology. The new WISKA cable gland has a 25 % slope construction form and avoids any recesses or grooves. Therefore, it allows for a clean draining of liquids and avoids any dirt collection. Completed by the gap-free sealing concept, HatGLAND meets with all requirements in terms of cleaning of components in plant construction.

The new two-component cable entry CLIXX consists of a membrane in its inner part, through which a cable only needs to be pushed and will get strain-relief at the same time. CLIXX itself is clipped into the hole from the outside without any thread – its sealing lip and snap fit ensure a reliable sealing within the enclosure. Compared to a standard cable gland, the IP 66/67 CLIXX saves up to 80 % of assembly time. Thanks to its space-saving and inconspicuous form, it is particularly suitable for hard-to-reach places and design fields of applications, for instance, in the lighting and building services engineering, switching gear construction and solar energy.

But also with its already established product range, WISKA is well prepared for new markets: The complete SPRINT cable gland system has been certified by the UL (Underwriters Laboratories) for the American market. After several WISKA cable glands had already been certified by GOST-R, now also all EX cable glands and accessories have been approved accordingly to the Russian market.

WISKA presents extended product range at SMM

06.09.2010, Kaltenkirchen - WISKA will present the latest product innovations in the field of maritime lighting solutions and CCTV camera surveillance at the SMM world trade fair for shipbuilding in 2010. The extended lighting program is a main focus, by which WISKA is positioning themselves as a complete supplier for ship lighting with their new floodlights, multi-purpose luminaires and LED lighting. All products meet the high maritime quality requirements and will be continually developed in terms of energy efficiency and environmental friendliness. They are supplemented by the searchlight range with the typical WISKA octagonal stainless steel casing. A new searchlight with halogen bulb and a reflector diameter of merely 200 mm completes the size spectrum and also guarantees the usual easy maintenance.

The day signalling searchlight HML-ISO 35, with its ergonomic form, is particularly easy to use, for example by its comfortable aiming and signalling, the integrated SOS function and LED battery display. It electronically identifies the applied operating voltage and can be operated with 12V and 24V DC. Exchanging the halogen lamps and glass mirrors does not require any tools. The WISKA Suez Canal searchlight SKS 575 impresses with its 80 % smaller design compared to its predecessor and has a reduced weight by 20 % as well. When it is not being used, it is additionally protected by a protective cover on the front pane. It can be used on all ships, regardless of the ship´s size.

In the field of explosion-proof products, WISKA is offering an explosion-proof CCTV camera for the first time. As with all CCTV products, the explosion-proof camera can be fully integrated with all components in the on-board network and will be ATEX approved shortly. The explosion-proof pan & tilt unit is also in preparation for market entry.

WISKA is enlarging their product range of electrical installation components and now offers metal cable ties with zero halogen plastic coating and fire protection classification V0. These bundle and fasten cables, for example to cable trays, and are safety-relevant in case of a fire due to their coating and the fire protection classification.

New special sealing inserts for WISKA cable glands

WISKA SPRINT – One Range, One Solution

07.06.2010, Kaltenkirchen - WISKA is focusing on consistent development of its SPRINT cable gland system with additional system components. The multiple and divided form seals, only recently introduced, are a response to the trend for increased parallel running of cables as well as for assembled cables.
WISKA’s new multiple seals meet the increasing demand for parallel running of data and control cables, for example in the growing field of automation and network technologies. In contrast to single cable glands, the use of a multiple solution makes it possible to install many cables in the same space. This saves the work and time required for installation and thus also storage space and costs, says the manufacturer. Furthermore, the SPRINT System comprises of seals with various hole patterns and many diameters for a wide range of cable types. Thanks to innovative tooling concepts WISKA can also realise customer-specific applications quickly and economically. Redundant insertions are simply sealed using proprietary red blind plugs, making them quickly identifiable.
WISKA’s divided seals are a simple system solution for assembled cables with plugs, sensors, cable shoes, etc. The plug is first inserted through the cap nut and fitting, after which the divided seal is placed around the cable. This procedure guarantees compliance with protection class IP 66.
The SPRINT cable gland system is characterised by its uniform range of seals for all materials, uniform clamping capacities of all cable glands and an assembly tool, which only depends on the gland´s size. The system’s versatility allows users to realize individual glands from a diverse range of compatible modular components – at significantly lower prices.

Premiere for new WISKA cable entry

WISKA CLIXX: Simple & Safe

11.04.2010, Kaltenkirchen - WISKA has expanded its range of cable entries and is presenting its innovative new product CLIXX for the first time at this year’s trade fairs Light & Building in Frankfurt (11 - 16 April 2010) and Hannover Messe (19 - 23 April 2010).

WISKA CLIXX combines the advantages of a membrane spout with those of a cable gland: It offers easy cable entry thanks to the membrane while also providing strain relief. Assembly of the cable entry itself only takes seconds: CLIXX is externally mounted from one side only, without any thread and requires no tools or locknuts. The quick one-hand-only assembly saves up to 80 percent of the time usually required to install a cable gland.

Space-saving, inconspicuous, flexible

CLIXX has a flat construction form making it space-saving and perfect for use in hard-to-reach places and where space is limited, even if large numbers are required. At the same time, thanks to its small dimensions, the system is inconspicuous. The visual design of any product fitted thus remains unaffected.
CLIXX does not require any special sealing inserts, so can be used for a wide range of cable types – without the strain relief and protection class being affected. If a cable is not installed it can also be used as a seal.
CLIXX is manufactured to the high IP 66 and 67 protection classes, guaranteed thanks to a flexible sealing lip and its secure locking into the housing during installation.
This innovative new product is particularly suitable for applications where space is limited; visual appearance is important and flexibility is required. It will be of special interest in the fields of lighting and building services engineering; switching gear construction and solar energy.
CLIXX was developed and subjected to rigorous testing in WISKA’s own in-house development department. The product is “made in Germany” using the proven WISKA two-component injection moulding process at the site in Kaltenkirchen.

WISKA offers solution to condensation problems in enclosures

19.01.2010, Kaltenkirchen - Consistenly, electronic housings, sensors and other electric devices are affected by breakdowns caused by condensation water – despite high protection degrees, ensuring among others, safe protection against water. But the reason for these breakdowns lies in the enclosure itself: While the enclosure is liquid-tight it still allows for air interchange so that water vapour still can penetrate the housing as soon as there is a pressure difference between the casing´s interior and the surroundings. This is mostly caused by fast temperature changes, for example, rain, wave action or by driving into a tunnel – due to low pressure in the housing, damp air is absorbed, it condenses and the resulting water leads to corrosion, electrical short circuits and breakdown of the device.
VentGLAND of WISKA is a cable gland with an integrated ePTFE Gore membrane which literally lets the casing breathe and doing so, equalizes pressure differences. Therefore, water condensation is avoided. With the high protection degree of IP69K, VentGLAND offers protection against dust and water and condensation at the same time. Due to identical sizes and construction, compared to a standard cable gland, VentGLAND can easily replace the formerly used without any further installation, drilling or further components. The worldwide unique breathing cable gland is used daily in exterior lighting, weather stations or electronic sensors and by its patented mode of operation provides a maximum of safety. www.wiska.co.uk
